Where is the treasure hidden?

The treasure is hidden somewhere within the Bismarck city limits.

How big is the search area?

The entire city of Bismarck is potentially in play! The clues are designed to guide you to specific locations, so you won't need to blindly search the whole city.

How does the hunt work?

The Capital Cache is a sequential treasure hunt. Everyone starts with the same first clue. Solve that clue to unlock the next one, and continue progressing until you've solved the final puzzle and located the treasure. Each clue is designed to lead you to a location where you'll need to discover or identify something that helps you move forward.

Will I need a car?

We strongly recommend having access to transportation. The hunt may take you to different parts of Bismarck, and walking between every location may not be practical. You can do some research online, but expect to visit locations in person.

Can I solve the clues from home?

Some research can absolutely be done from home using Google, maps, and other resources. However, the hunt is designed around visiting real-world locations, so you should expect to get out and explore.

Is this a one-day event?

Not necessarily! The hunt begins October 10 and continues until somebody finds the treasure. That said, this is a race! Hunters who dedicate significant time to solving clues, especially during the opening weekend, will generally have an advantage.

Can I start late?

Yes! You can join the hunt after it begins, provided the treasure hasn't already been claimed. Just remember that other hunters may already be several clues ahead of you.

Can I hunt with friends or family?

Absolutely! Working together can make solving puzzles easier and exploring the city more fun. Just remember that the $5,000 prize is awarded for finding the treasure, not separately to each person participating.

Is this family-friendly?

Yes! We encourage families to explore and solve clues together. Some riddles may be challenging for younger hunters, but that's where teamwork comes in!

Do I need to know a lot about Bismarck?

Not at all! Local knowledge may give you an advantage, but everything you need to solve the hunt can be discovered through observation, research, and a little creative thinking.

Will I need to enter any buildings or businesses?

No. You won't need to enter buildings or businesses to complete the hunt. Please don't disturb local businesses, employees, residents, or private property while searching.

Is the treasure buried?

Nope! We never bury our treasures. You won't need to dig, climb, damage property, enter dangerous areas, or do anything reckless to find it.

What should I do if a location seems unsafe?

Your safety comes first, always. Never enter an area that feels dangerous or uncomfortable. We encourage hunters to explore with a friend, especially in less populated areas, and to avoid searching alone after dark. No treasure is worth risking your safety.

Will you release hints during the hunt?

We may share updates, clarifications, or additional guidance as the hunt progresses. Keep an eye on official Seven Paces communications for announcements.

What happens when someone finds the treasure?

The finder will need to follow the included claiming instructions so we can verify the discovery and arrange the $5,000 prize.
